Dog Training Palm Beach
Palm Beach sits at the very tip of the Northern Beaches, with the ocean on one side and Pittwater on the other. It is a peaceful, scenic place for a dog, and on summer weekends it fills with visitors, holidaymakers and day trippers.
A dog who is relaxed on a quiet winter morning can find the summer rush overwhelming, and a dog who splits time between a city home and a holiday house needs consistent rules in both.
Dogs At Work offers dog training in Palm Beach that helps your dog stay calm and well mannered whether the streets are empty or packed, using science based methods built around you and your dog.
Quiet streets and busy summer weekends
Outside the peak season, Palm Beach can feel wonderfully still, and long walks along the Pittwater side are a joy. Come summer, the wharf, the cafes and the beach road fill with people, cars and dogs from all over Sydney. The change from calm to crowded can be a shock for a dog who has not been prepared.
We prepare your dog for both versions of Palm Beach, with skills that hold up in either:
Loose leash walking in crowds
Busy footpaths, narrow verges and slow traffic put dogs and people in close contact. We teach your dog to stay near you and move steadily, even when the environment is packed.
Calm greetings
Holidaymakers love to pat friendly dogs, and not all dogs enjoy it. We teach dogs to sit politely for greetings, or to relax at your side without interacting when you would prefer.
Settling around crowds
Waiting at the wharf, sitting outside a cafe or lying on the grass while a game of cricket goes on nearby all require a dog who can switch off. We build a solid settle routine in stages.
Handling traffic and parked cars
Busy weekends mean more vehicles, doors opening and people arriving with bags and boards. We teach your dog to wait calmly, stay clear of the road and stay put when cars pass.
Dogs are generally not permitted on Northern Beaches beaches, so we focus on the footpaths, reserves and streets where you and your dog can spend time together. Barrenjoey Headland sits within Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, where dogs are not permitted, which is another reason to build great manners for the places you can go. Always check current signs and council information before taking your dog anywhere new.
Holiday homes and dogs with two addresses
Many Palm Beach and Whale Beach homes are holiday retreats or second homes, and dogs who split their time between locations need consistent rules everywhere. Dogs thrive on routine, and moving between a city apartment and a beachside house can unsettle them. New smells, new layouts, different fences and different household rhythms all take some adjusting.
We help owners set clear routines so their dog knows what to expect whether they are in a weekend house or a full time home. Practical steps include:
Keep core cues and rules the same
If your dog is not allowed on the couch at home, the same rule should apply at the holiday house, or the confusion will lead to problems.
Bring familiar items
A bed, blanket, favourite chew or mat helps a dog feel settled in a new space.
Establish a routine early
Regular meal times, walks and rest periods give your dog a predictable structure wherever you are.
Check the new property for hazards
Fences, gates, pools and steep drops all need attention, especially if your dog is new to the location.
Practise settling in each place
A mat that travels with you can become a portable safe spot.
Palm Beach and Whale Beach
Palm Beach
The peninsula is a narrow strip of land between the ocean and Pittwater, with limited parking, busy weekends and plenty of visitors. Owners often want their dogs to be relaxed around ferries, boats and the wharf, so we teach calm waiting, a solid stay and comfortable behaviour around water and engines.
Whale Beach
The winding roads, steep driveways and sea views make lead manners, car behaviour and calm arrivals important. Visitors and guests come and go frequently, so we also work on polite greetings and staying settled while the house is busy. Steep driveways and gates can be a risk for dogs who dash, so we teach a reliable wait at thresholds and help you set up safe boundaries around the property.
Whether you live here all year or arrive on Friday evenings, we tailor training to your routine and your home.
Guests, parties and busy households
Palm Beach homes often host visitors, from family gatherings to holiday guests. A dog who jumps on people, steals food or barks for attention can make gatherings stressful. We teach:
- A calm greeting routine at the door, with a set place to wait.
- A reliable settle on a mat or bed, so your dog can relax while guests are around.
- Polite behaviour around food, including leaving items on tables and benches alone.
- Clear rules for children and visitors about how to interact with your dog.
Where a dog feels overwhelmed by visitors, a quiet room, a comfortable bed and a favourite chew give them a break. Good management and good training work together.

If your dog needs a solid foundation before the busy season, Farm Stay and Train is a great way to get there. Your dog spends 10 days learning on a private 99-acre farm, in a small group of up to five dogs, with video updates so you never miss a moment. The calm, small group setting is very different from the noise and chaos of a large boarding facility.
Every dog is approved before booking, and we are always happy to talk through your dog’s needs first, so start with a call or text to our trainer. Dogs do not need to be sociable to attend. A dog who is nervous around other dogs can use the stay to work on positive associations one on one. You provide a collar or harness, which is returned when your dog goes home, and any medication your dog needs.
Afterwards, we help you carry the progress into your own home, whether that is a permanent residence or a holiday retreat, with follow up guidance so the new skills last.
